Mr. Kaio Cesar Marinho Cunha | Plant Morphology | Best Researcher Award

Biology at Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia | Brazil

Mr. Kaio Cesar Marinho Cunha is an emerging Brazilian botanist specializing in plant morphology and taxonomy, with a strong focus on Amazonian flora and the Sapotaceae family. Born in Manaus in 1997, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Escola Superior Batista do Amazonas (2018), a specialization in Environmental Auditing and Management from FAMETRO (2020), and a Master’s degree in Botany from the State University of Feira de Santana (2023), under the guidance of Anderson Geyson Alves de Araújo and Alberto Vicentini. Professionally, he has been closely associated with the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA), serving as a research assistant in the Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project, and contributing to initiatives such as the INCT Virtual Flora and Fungi program and herbarium support projects. His research interests include taxonomy of Sapotaceae, plant morphology, morphometric analysis, and the integration of spectroscopic tools like near-infrared spectroscopy for taxonomic validation. He has developed strong research skills in specimen identification, morphometric data analysis, fieldwork, and interdisciplinary collaboration, complemented by his participation in national and international symposia and conferences. His publications include articles in reputable journals such as FLORA and Phytotaxa, alongside presentations at INPA scientific congresses. He has also been a CAPES scholarship holder, reflecting academic recognition of his research potential. With growing contributions to taxonomy, biodiversity conservation, and educational outreach, Mr. Cunha demonstrates promise as a researcher who bridges classical and modern approaches, making him a deserving candidate for honors and future leadership in botanical sciences.
