Prof. Dr. George Papatheodorou is a Professor of Geological and Environmental Oceanography at the University of Patras, recognized internationally for his leadership in marine geology, geophysics, sedimentology, geochemistry and marine pollution studies, serving as Director of the Laboratory of Marine Geology and Physical Oceanography and previously holding major administrative roles including Vice Head and Head of the Department of Geology and Dean of the School of Natural Sciences, contributing pioneering research on marine litter, active faults, seabed fluid flows, submarine mass movements, anoxic and hypoxic systems, coastal erosion and marine geoarchaeology, with extensive experience in mapping marine and lacustrine habitats and leading large numbers of oceanographic expeditions focused on geophysical, geochemical, sedimentological and geotechnical investigations, while maintaining a prolific academic record including over one hundred and sixty publications in leading SCI-indexed journals, numerous conference papers, book chapters and academic books, complemented by a high citation impact across Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science and ResearchGate, and supervising large numbers of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students, participating as member or chair in dozens of PhD committees across major Greek and international universities, while coordinating or contributing as principal scientist to more than one hundred national, European and international multidisciplinary research projects covering marine geology, fluid flow systems, offshore infrastructure assessment, environmental monitoring, cultural heritage protection and advanced marine remote sensing, and being invited as a distinguished speaker at universities and research institutions across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States, establishing him as one of the most influential contemporary scientists in marine geological and environmental oceanography.
