Dr. Jaime Pereña-Ortiz, currently Assistant Professor at the University of Malaga, is an accomplished botanist with expertise in plant conservation, biodiversity restoration, and vegetation management. He earned his Licentiate in Biology with a specialization in Plant Biology from the University of Malaga in 2002, obtained a Master’s degree in Conservation, Management, and Restoration of Biodiversity from the University of Granada in 2013, and completed his Ph.D. in Biology at the University of Malaga in 2018 with a Cum Laude thesis on the conservation value of coastal habitats in Southern Spain. Over his 16-year career, he has worked with leading institutions including the Junta de Andalucía, IUCN, Aula del Mar, and the Asociación Iberomacaronésica de Jardines Botánicos, contributing to both in situ and ex situ conservation strategies, habitat restoration, and international projects such as the Cueva de Nerja Conservation Initiative. His research interests focus on threatened plant species, invasive flora, coastal ecosystems, and the application of GIS tools in ecological monitoring. Skilled in field botany, phytosociology, ecological modeling, and population reinforcement, he has published 14 Scopus-indexed documents with 64 citations by 62 documents and an h-index of 4. Recognized for his impactful contributions, Dr. Pereña-Ortiz is strongly positioned to advance botanical conservation through leadership, international collaborations, and high-impact research.
